This painting was inspired by a night celebrating a dear friend's birthday. I had such a wonderful time at the party I came home and immediately started this painting. The party was held in a very large outdoor gazebo at night. Even though it was extremely dark outside of the gazebo the bright red alizarin crimson of the bougainvillea flower seemed to shine intensely. All of the black in this painting was created with the use of burnt sienna, cerulean and cobalt blues, and cadmium orange which creates the illusion of the depth of the night.
